A breakthrough in inexpensive, clean, fast-charging batteries
Grayson Deysher, a recent PhD graduate from the UC San Diego Materials Science and Engineering program and advised by Professor Shirley Meng, is the first author on a new paper in Nature Energy that describes creation of the world’s first anode-free sodium solid-state battery. Full Story

Ultra-sensitive Lead Detector Could Significantly Improve Water Quality Monitoring
Engineers at UC San Diego have developed an ultra-sensitive sensor made with graphene that can detect extraordinarily low concentrations of lead ions in water. The device achieves a record limit of detection of lead down to the femtomolar range, which is one million times more sensitive than previous sensing technologies. Full Story
